Manipulative populism

Any article about New Labour could be titled 'Manipulative Populism'. Everything is geared towards deceiving the electorate and getting into and then staying in power. The Iraq War inquiry. Fall about laughing. If you order something, say a war, you don't then need an inquiry to 'discover' why you did it. If you tell a lie even a whole pack of them in an organised way, you kind of know you did that. Are they claiming amnesia? 45 minutes was a lie. 45 minutes to what? and Jack Straw talking up Iraqs being close to nuclear ballistic missiles - we KNEW what state their missile programme was in. Uranium ore and forged documents, MI6's scheme where they planted titbits of gossip from the UNSCOM investigation into he press in countries wavering at the UN, and so on. They all knew that at best there was some left over mouldy chemicals from the previous programme and there was no evidence of anything more substantial. They KNOW this. And the 'inquiry' won't be available until after the election. Classic New Labour blackmail. Having led the country into a dishonest and murderous war they now present themselves as the guardians of the nation's probity. Fall about laughing. They will do anything to cling to power.

Efficiency versus Freedom

In New Labour's Britain efficiency triumphs over freedom and diginity. First finger-printing id systems for children in schools and now electronic tagging of the elderly in council care homes. Don't say that Labour doesn't target the most vulnerable in society - the young and the old.

Psychotic murderous rage

Livni the minister, Mark Regev the spokesman and Olmert, Prime Minister and presumably the rest of them are in the grip of a murderous psychotic rage. Livni insisted that Hamas is of a different order to Israel, Olmert explained that Palestinian children are dying and not Israeli children because 'Israel takes care of her children', Regev when discussing the ceasefire would not even mention Hamas. It is clear that they see Hamas as vermin (who similarily don't care for their children). I am surprised that the US has sanctioned all this carnage. Bush told the American people 'Hamas, an Islamic terrorist organisation, seized power in a coup and used the ceasefire to stock up on thousands of rockets and morters', every word of which is a conscious lie. Hamas, the elected party in Gaza whose activities terrorist or not are limited solely to the Palestinian struggle, came to power, probably without pre-planning, after a conflict with the corrupt Fatah movement armed and funded by the US and brought in probably hundreds rather than thousands of arms which can do no more than pinprick Israel, in comparison with what Israel can do, using US weapons, as we are seeing. And Brown says on the day of the latest Israeli massacre of innocents; 'it is a dark day for the Middle East'. Even after minimum 150 civilians murdered and many many more wounded that is all he can do. The Fisk piece reminds us of Israel's previous massacres and gives us advance warning of the lies the Israelis will trot out - lies which since he wrote the piece they have duly spewed out.

The Final Solution

The Israeli spokesman told the reporter that a solution which finished the problem was needed. Right from the start of Hamas gaining power in Gaza Israeli has been trying to bring it down - by a campaign of blockade designed as psychological warfare against the whole population with a view to isolating Hamas. Hamas maintained its leadership role by (cynically if you like - it was fighting for its survival as an organisation) rocketing Israeli. Rockets which as we all know are nothing, zilch, compared to Israel's US supplied armoury. Now that that first policy failed Israel is now launching the attack. Expect a long occupation, targetted arrests and assasinations of Hamas personnel and a withdrawal with a buffer zone of some kind. The fundamental problem is that the Israeli state was built from the start on aggression; it cannot give up the need to dominate all the Arabs. This is the final solution internlised and now externalised against the Arabs. Best solution: no Israel. Allow Jews to live in Palestine by all means but the US sponsored terror state of Israel is the problem in the Middle East. Of course the US wants it because it is like having a giant air-craft carrier bang in the middle of all those oil fields - so difficult to see how America will give it up, before the oil runs out. When it does Israel will lose its strategic importance for the US.

Small bonues

Citibank has announced that this year executives will be receiving smaller bonuses. (The very top executives none). Citibank was bailed out to the tune of £35 billion according to the BBC. Smaller bonuses. That a bank can be bailed out with a huge amount of taxpayers money for its mistakes and still pay bonuses seems to tell us quite a lot about the cynicism and greed of the banking industry.

read this

Very rare; an imapssioned, angry piece of writing. A rare voice on the slaughter being committed in Gaza by the mad terror state which is Israel. We are told by Israeli spokespeople and the media alike (there really is no difference Robert Fisk excepted) that the aim of the attacks is to stop rocket attacks. No; it is an attempt to destroy Hamas in Gaza either with an aim to re-occupy the territory (less unilkely) or. more likely, to try to get it put back under Fatah control - perhaps with an Israeli 'buffer zone' like South Lebanon.
